Chicago DUI Attorney
Driver's License Reinstatement
At the end of the statutory summary suspension, your driver's license will be reinstated. However, there are some requirements that must be met before the Secretary of State's office will give you your license back. Other suspensions on your record will have to be cleared and a $250 reinstatement fee must be paid to the Secretary of State. This money goes to the Department of Human Services and the Offices of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse. If you were a repeat offender, that fee will be increased to $500.
If you were convicted to DUI, you must prove that you went through an alcohol or drug evaluation. You must also have finished a remedial course concerning substance abuse. You will also have to appear before a Secretary of State hearing officer in which you show that you will not be a danger to other people on the roads. The seriousness of your offense as well as your record will be taken into consideration. Finally, you will have to reapply for a driver's license and pass the written, vision, and driving exam.
